MetrANOVA has created a comprehensive network measurement stack specifically for Research and Education (R&E) networks. This technology is designed to uphold digital sovereignty while facilitating controlled data sharing with approved stakeholders. This workshop will explore the stack's capabilities, its technical foundation, and crucial high-level considerations - such as policy and trust - that are essential for federated data sharing.
The workshop will be divided in two sessions, both of them taking place on Thursday 11 June 2026, at the Terrace Foyer.
09:00-10:30 Federated Measurement Sharing with MetrANOVA
This session will introduce the MetrANOVA project and its forthcoming software stack, highlighting how this technology empowers community participants to share data with collaborators in a controlled manner while preserving digital sovereignty.
The 90-minute agenda is as follows:
• 30 min: MetrANOVA Project Overview - Covering the project's motivation, starting points, current status, and roadmap.
• 30 min: MetrANOVA Technical Stack and Operating Model - A detailed look at the architecture and technical evaluation.
• 30 min: Discussion - A collaborative session to address any gaps and determine future needs.
11:00-12:30 Federated Measurement Sharing with MetrANOVA
MetrANOVA endeavours to establish a clear, controlled, and policy-driven framework for data sharing across one or more federated organisations. The MetrANOVA software stack is designed to implement necessary access controls and signal data type and sensitivity.
Crucially, the project also provides adopters with essential guidance, including policy examples, data classification models, and other resources. This support is intended to enable well-founded justification for data sharing, allowing organisations to accurately assess and communicate the associated risk profiles and benefits.
This session builds on the software stack description from Session 1, opening the floor to community discussion of critical legal, ethical, and policy considerations. The goal is to determine how MetrANOVA can best support adopters in leveraging a federated data sharing system for utility while protecting the interests of their users, customers, and other stakeholders.
