Infoshare: The OpenAIRE Graph and its API - An introduction
The OpenAIRE Graph is a free and open resource that brings together and interlinks hundreds of millions of metadata records from over 100k data sources trusted by researchers. The project broke ground in 2012, being one of the first research knowledge graphs and has now grown into one of the world's largest and into the authoritative source for the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC). Here, researchers, communities, institutions, companies, and citizens thrive by freely sharing research products and related information.
This session will be led by OpenAIRE's senior engagement officer Stefania Amodeo and by OpenAIRE's CTO Paolo Manghi. It will include time for discussion on the OpenAIRE Graph API and its potential value to NRENs and their communities.
The session will also feature special guests Alen Novosel, development lead and data analyst, and Dominik Milošević, fullstack developer from the University of Zagreb Computing Centre (SRCE). They will showcase implementation examples and share insights on how they use the Graph API to retrieve research outputs from ten universities participating in the UNIC European University alliance for display in the UNIC Virtual Campus.
About the speakers
Stefania Amodeo
Stefania Amodeo is an Engagement & Training Officer at OpenAIRE. She is a researcher with academic experience, and she has a Ph.D. in Astronomy and Astrophysics from the Paris Observatory. She has worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Cornell University and the Observatory of Strasbourg, specialising in astronomical data science and open science.
Her role in OpenAIRE is to implement engagement and training activities for the research community. Her work involves identifying communities' needs and developing cohesive activities that offer solutions through OpenAIRE services, while also improving OpenAIRE services through the addition of new features, data, and methodologies.
Paolo Manghi
Paolo is a senior researcher in computer science at the Istituto di Scienza e Tecnologie dell'Informazione (ISTI) of the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR) in Pisa, Italy. Since January 2009, Paolo has been serving as the Chief Technology Officer at OpenAIRE AMKE. In this capacity, he plays a critical role in vision-making, technical roadmapping, and coordinating the OpenAIRE portfolio of Open Science services, above all the OpenAIRE Graph. He also ensures these services are integrated, aligned, and capable of collaborating with global scholarly communication service providers, European research infrastructures and einfratructures, and the European Open Science Cloud. As part of these activities, he has played a coordination role in several H2020 projects, including OSTrails, FAIRCORE4EOSC, EOSC-Beyond, EOSC-Future, EOSC-Enhance, OpenAIRE-Nexus, OpenAIRE-Connect, OpenAIRE-Advance, OpenAIRE2020, and OpenAIREplus.
Paolo’s work is instrumental in promoting collaborative research and advancing open science globally. His research interests focus on research and scholarly communication infrastructures, with an emphasis on scholarly knowledge graphs and technologies that facilitate open science publishing across various disciplines.
Alen Novosel
Alen Novosel holds Master’s degree in informational sciences and has more than seven years of experience developing, maintaining and providing support to users of national systems within higher education. He works as a development lead at SRCE, where his primary responsibility is building and implementing the UNIC Virtual Campus with his team. Alen also works as a data analyst and performs many complex tasks related to data warehouses in the field of higher education and research in Croatia.
Dominik Milošević
Dominik Milošević holds Master's degree in information and communication technologies and has more than three years of experience developing, maintaining and providing support to users of national systems within higher education.
