DESCRIPTION:Fibre optic sensing is rapidly emerging as a powerful capabili
 ty within research and education networks\, enabling existing telecom infr
 astructure to be used as a large-scale environmental sensor\, as well as s
 upporting new applications for NRENs.\nThis infoshare will present the res
 ults of a recent survey of NRENs\, highlighting current activities and are
 as of interest across the community. The session will provide a high-level
  overview of fibre sensing technologies relevant to NRENs\, share early in
 sights and use cases\, and explore opportunities for collaboration. Attend
 ees will gain a clearer understanding of how fibre sensing is evolving wit
 hin the community\, including its role in supporting scientific research\,
  alongside growing interest in infrastructure monitoring and new service d
